It makes reviewing drawings natural. Rotating from vertical to horizontal elevation would allow you to review drawings the same as you would if they were printed hard copies or if you were viewing them in a PDF viewer.

You can rotate photos. Why not drawings or other documents?

Agreed. It would be nice if there was a rotation tool within the drawings module in cases where a drawing was uploaded portrait rather than landscape.
I'm sure if this update was made it would also impact Documents--which is heavily requested as well.
