If a user accidentally deletes/backspaces the file extension (Ex: .pdf, .docx, .jpg) when changing the name of a document, then the change cannot be saved until the correct extension is typed back in. You cannot change the file type from within Viewpoint anyway, so why allow it to be seen and unintentionally modified? To prevent this, for example, it could be hidden when the Edit Document window is opened. Alternatively it could be shown, but not capable of being modified.

I agree! Especially when we don't have to use the file extension in any other application we use daily, so it isn't intuitive to do this.
